Luis Ortega’s Rawhide Artistry: Braiding in the Ortega BookCalifornia Tradition joins the list of literary works showcased at the 2010 Old West Show & Auction.

Don Reeves, co-author with Chuck Stormes, will be signing copies of this acclaimed new work on the master rawhide artist. The book is a richly illustrated overview of Ortega's unparalleled work, and is the most comprehensive overview of his life, art, and career. It is the first book-length work on rawhide braiding in North America, charting changes in horse gear over five decades. Numerous illustrations offer close-ups of Ortega's work that depict the intricacy of his reins, quirts, and other pieces.

Don Reeves holds the McCasland Chair of Cowboy Culture at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City, and is a frequent contributor to the museum's quarterly magazine, Persimmon Hill. Meet Don and purchase copies of this one-of-a-kind book at the High Noon Western Americana booth at this year’s Old West Show, June 25-27, 2010.
